at reducing common germs found on shared writing instruments, including MRSA, E. Coli, Norovirus and H Influenza.
Dr. Brian Wind started the development of the Steri-write device in 2010 from an idea that originated when he noticed his pediatric colleagues had two waiting rooms, one for sick kids and one for well visits, but the families all signed in at the same window utilizing pens out of a communal basket. He also noted the need for sanitized shared writing instruments in his office, surgery center and local hospital. He felt there had to be a better system, and the concept of the world’s first hands-free writing instrument sanitizer was born. Since the beginning, Dr. Wind has worked through multiple design and prototype developments with the Steri-Write device and has been issued 5 US patents related to this highly engineered product. During the past decade, there has been a notable increase in hospital and community acquired infections and the general public has become much more aware of the importance of cleanliness and sanitizing processes.
As interest accelerated around the Steri-Write company and the product, Dr. Wind and his team performed market validations studies, conducted focus groups, created a solid company infrastructure and participated in multiple think tank sessions to prepare for manufacturing and production. In 2019, the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center initiated an independent study using the Steri-Write device and found it to be 99.9% effective in eradicating common pathogens found on shared writing instruments. These results were published in the American Journal of Infection Control, in January 2020. One final test occurred when the team introduced the Steri-Write device in Eureka Park at CES 2020, the start-up division at the world’s largest Consumer Electronics Show. The feedback gained at CES served as a barometer for the company’s future. The CES response was overwhelmingly positive and thus, 2021 became the year to launch the Steri-Write device into the marketplace.
The intellectual property associated with Steri-Write is patent protected by five US Patents and two registered Trademarks.
